Student Social Service Society 2019-2020 Service Trip to Mongolia June 17-28, 2019

About Us

Student Social Service Society is a non-profit student group established in 1992 with the aim to achieve the goals of serving the less fortunate, raise public awareness on societal issues, and promote the importance of social services.

Student Social Service Society strives to serve and care the people that are disabled, visually-impaired, solitary elderly and children with special learning needs, etc.

About the Project

This year, we have chosen Mongolia as our destination to expose our participating students to societal issues at an international level.

Duration
June 17-26, 2019

The purpose of this student service trip:

  1. Spread love and care to local children through teaching and games
  2. Help local children to learn language, science and sports and build their confidence and communication skills through experiential learning program
  3. Provide support to villagers by assisting them with planting crops
  4. Help villagers construct infrastructure to raise their standard of living
  5. Cultural exchange and establish long-lasting relationships with the local community

What we will achieve on this Student Service Trip

The trip is organised to teach participants the importance of cultural diversity.

Expected outcomes for students on this trip include:

  1. Allow students to experience different walks of life through farming and construction
  2. Cultivate students’ empathy and independence
  3. Improve student’s organizational skills while implementing social services on an international scale, and at the same time giving back to society
  4. Travel to the capital city Ulaanbaatar to experience the exotic culture and explore the rich history of Mongolia while expanding the students’ horizons.

We need your support!

We want this trip to be accessible to all students on campus and do not want the fee of the trip be a hindrance for students to join. However, due to the remote location of Mongolia, the high cost of flights and program fee make the price of the trip over HK$7,500 per person. Hence, we hope to raise funds to subsidize participants.

We also want to maintain a long-term relationship and show our gratitude with a small monetary donation to Service Civil International (SCI), the partner organization for this trip. SCI is a volunteer organisation dedicated to promoting a culture of peace by organising international voluntary projects for people of all ages and backgrounds. We have partnered with them for multiple times, and each time has been a great experience for the students.

Fundraising Goals

We aim to raise HK$95,000 for this eventThe cost for each person is over HK$7,500 and our aim is to provide a subsidy for the service trip and lower the fee to HK$2,300 per student to make it more affordable.

Taking into account the SEA Fund award of subsidizing HK$1,500 to each student, we would still need to raise at least HK$3,800 for each person to reach our target amount.

Students will be reimbursed with SEA Fund  subsidy and funds raised on the  alumgiving website once they have completed the trip and fulfilled DSTO's requirement. The remained unclaimed funds will be counted towards the Alumni Endowment Funds to support other student initiatives.

Acknowledgement

As a token of our appreciation, we will send all donors a thank you letter and a video summary of the project. The video will be sent after the service trip around the middle of July. We want to express our gratitude to our donors for their support on achieving our goals—promoting the importance of service trips and serving the underprivileged. The video summary will share our success story and the joy of helping others and sharing love and care to the people in Mongolia.
